Stephanie Marshall, a Canadian mezzo at the Academy, has a voice of individual and poignant timbre.

Her sound flowed freely, strongly, passionately, and purely. Her conception and embodiment of Turnage's dramatic sequence - eyes expressive, moves and stations eloquent while she sang the words - was stirring.

She's a singer who stirred me, one I look forward to hearing again.

Andrew Porter - Opera

The Ferrier winner – already set for the title role in Poul Ruder’s The Handmaid’s Tale at ENO – plumped for breadth of repertoire. She knows how to pitch her voice’s clarion call, coloured up and down with low-level vibrato. In the quicksilver repertoire, Marshall felt her way through with no problem: the mingled fear and delight of Grieg’s With a waterlily got the house shivering. Her Vaughn Williams beguiled, and her American selections (Bolcom’s Amor especially) swept us away in smiles. “
Geoff Brown, The Times

Visit the Kathleen Ferrier website
