An unforgettably beautiful voice

Stephanie Marshall’s skill as a performer has led her to such varied roles as Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Offred, the lead role in The Handmaid′s Tale, which she premiered in the UK in 2003 and Nancy in Albert Herring which she will sing next season for Pacific Opera Victoria.

First coming to critical attention while studying at the Royal Academy of Music, she sang the demanding solo role in Mark Anthony Turnage’s Twice Through the Heart, and went on to win the Kathleen Ferrier Award. She is equally comfortable in classical repertoire where her performances with the ENO were noted, “Stephanie Marshall excels as Cherubino“ - Guardian and for Annio “...a sensuous blend of vibrato and tone from Stephanie Marshall“ — Opera.

However it was in the role of Offred, in Poul Ruder’s The Handmaid’s Tale that she received unanimous praise: “She holds the stage with quiet authority and artless concentration, in a way that vividly illuminates Offred’s emotional, sexual and psychological dilemmas. And she sings with radiant purity.“ — Financial Times
